On Going Services Provided by the Authority

Maintenance, rehabilitation & development of about 2000 Km length of C & D class roads and related structures belonging to Western Province within 10 Divisional offices in Colombo,Gampaha and Kalutara districts.

Repair & rehabilitation and development of roads of local Authorities with funds of local authorities and by various funds allocated by central government.


c) Carrying out internal road development projects in industrial parks etc. funded by other institutions such as 
    board of Investment.

Feature Plans 

a) It is proposed to establish a fully equipped Laboratory under Research and Development section by which 
   authority expect to enhance the quality assurance system mainly in under mentioned areas, 

i) Checking of road construction materials for specification requirements.

ii) Assurance of quality of materials supplies to other parties by the Authority

iii) To carryout field tests required for design, purposes and field compaction tests etc.

b) Development of Provincial roads to cater the needs in accordance with National Road Network Improvement 
    Project.

c) Since for about 30 years no grading system was adopted revising grading system is essential, hence a new 
    grading system will be adopted and handing over of upgraded roads to RDA and taking over of roads from local 
   Authorities will be done according to a new criteria.

d) Development of few roads annually as model roads by consider in importance of Socio – Economics back g 
    round.

e) Two mechanical engineering divisions will be restructured to cater all vehicle repairs & service needs of Western 
    Provincial Council and private sector also.

f) Two mechanical engineering divisions also will be developed as training centers for training of mechanics, heavy 
   machinery/ equipment operators and heavy vehicle drivers, welders, auto electricians etc.

g) Repair & reactivate existing metal crusher to produce & supply metal requirements of our own Authority and as 
   well as P.R.D. contractors and private sector.
